Notice to Members:
NOMINATION AND ELECTION PROCESS
South Texas Federal Credit Union will hold its Annual Meeting at 12:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, at our McAllen Branch. The Nominating Committee, appointed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, has nominated one member for each Board position to be filled. As a result, there will be no nominations from the floor and the election will not be conducted by ballot. The five nominees are Irma G. Ballesteros, Carolina Canchola, Antolín L. Garza, Norma J Saenz and Sergio Torres. A brief statement of qualifications and biographical data for each of the nominees is on this notice.
Further nominations may be made by official petition. Official petitions may be obtained by contacting Ms. Barbara Johnson, Board Vice-Chair, South Texas Federal Credit Union, 2121 W. Dove Ave., McAllen, TX 78504. Only members with 3 months of membership who are 18 years of age or older and are in good standing with the Credit Union are eligible for nomination. Official petitions must include each signer’s name, member number, address, and telephone number. Official petitions must be accompanied by a signed statement from the nominee that he or she is agreeable to the nomination and will accept office if elected. The petitions should also include a brief statement of qualifications and biographical data. Official petitions must be led with the Secretary of the Board of Directors at South Texas Federal Credit Union, 2121 W. Dove Ave., McAllen, TX 78504 no later than 6 p.m. CST, Thursday 11 August 2022, which is the closing date for receiving nominations by petition. If any official petitions are led by the allotted date and time, the Secretary of the Board of Directors shall cause either a printed ballot, electronic ballot, or notice of ballot to be mailed to members eligible to vote.
The instructions will include the names of all candidates and a brief statement of qualifications and biographical data. Results of the election shall be determined by plurality vote and announced at the Annual Meeting.
BIOS
Irma G. Ballesteros
Irma G. Ballesteros is a financial institution retiree with 25 years experience in back room operations. She was also an active member of the McAllen Town Band where she served as treasurer for three years as well as a member of the McAllen High School Band Boosters Club where she was treasurer for three years. She was an active member of the Ladies of Harley which is responsible for the annual Christmas Toy Drive fundraiser.
Ms. Ballesteros has recently become a proud member of South Texas Federal Credit Union.
Carolina Canchola
Ms. Canchola is currently a 5th grade teacher with 35 years of service with McAllen ISD. She is involved in numerous campus committees and has been a Mentor Teacher for student teachers. She currently serves as a representative on the district committee, JPCC, for both school and McAllen local affiliate of Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA). She held numerous roles with McAllen TCTA as President, Vice President, Secretary, Parliamentarian, and Historian. Ms. Canchola has served as a State Board of Directors for Region 1 – TCTA.
Ms Canchola is a member of STFCU, and has been a Board Member since 2013.
Antolin L. Garza
Norma J. Saenz
Norma Saenz retired from McAllen ISD after 39 years of teaching third and fifth grades. During her tenure she served on many various committees at the campus and district levels.
She was also a member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association serving as an officer at the local and district levels. She continues as a retired member. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Iota sorority. Ms. Saenz has been a member of the credit union for 47 years. She has served and chaired the Supervisory Committee for 15 years. For the last 11 years she has been a member of the board of directors and currently serves as Chairperson.
Ms. Saenz believes in the philosophy of credit unions and strives to help STFCU serve its members with their financial needs.
Sergio Torres
Sergio H Torres is currently a business teacher and dual-enrollment instructor at McAllen High School. Mr. Torres serves as a secondary representative and vice-chair on the District Committee, JPCC. He also serves as President-Elect and is part of the Scholarship Committee for the McAllen Classroom Teachers Association. Mr. Torres is very involved in various school activities including Business Professionals of America (BPA), UIL Academics-Computer Applications, and e-Sports. Mr. Torres received a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas-Pan American. He later received his Principal Certification from Lamar University. Mr. Torres has been a member of South Texas Federal Credit Union for 3 years.
