Notice to Members:

NOMINATION AND ELECTION PROCESS

South Texas Federal Credit Union will hold its Annual Meeting at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at our McAllen Branch. The Nominating Committee, appointed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, has nominated one member for each Board position to be filled. As a result, there will be no nominations from the floor and the election will not be conducted by ballot.

Further nominations may be made by official petition. Official petitions may be obtained by contacting Ms. Daniela Garcia, Election Committee Secretary, South Texas Federal Credit Union, 2121 W. Dove Ave., McAllen, TX 78504. Only members with 3 months of membership who are 18 years of age or older and are in good standing with the Credit Union are eligible for nomination. Official petitions must include each signer’s name, member number, address, email address, and telephone number. Official petitions must be accompanied by a signed statement from the nominee that he or she is agreeable to the nomination and will accept office if elected. The petitions should also include a brief statement of qualifications and biographical data. Official petitions must be submitted to Ms. Daniela Garcia, Secretary of the Election Committee at South Texas Federal Credit Union, 2121 W. Dove Ave., McAllen, TX 78504 no later than 5 p.m. CST, August 18, 2025, which is the closing date for receiving nominations by petition. If any official petitions qualify, the Secretary of the Board of Directors shall ensure either that a printed ballot, electronic ballot, or notice of ballot is mailed to all members eligible to vote.

The instructions will include the names of all candidates and a brief statement of qualifications and biographical data. Results of the election shall be determined by plurality vote and announced at the Annual Meeting.

Norma J. Saenz, Board Chair

Norma Saenz reitred from McAllen ISD after 39 years of dedicated service as a third-and fifth grade teacher. Throughout her career, she actively contributed to various campus and district-level committees, demonstrating her commitment to education beyond the classroom. She was also an active member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, where she served in officer roles at both the local and district levels. She continues to be involved as a retired member. Additionally, she is a member of the Kappa Kappa Iota sorority.

A devoted member of South Texas Federal Credit Union since 1975, Ms. Saenz served on and chaired the Supervisory Committee for 15 years before joining the Board of Directors in 2011. She currently serves as Board Chair, leading with dedication and a deep commitment to the credit union’s mission.

Ms. Saenz strongly believes in the philosophy of credit unions and strives to ensure that South Texas Federal Credit Union meets the financial needs of its members with integrity and excellence.

Carolina Canchola, Board Member

Carolina Canchola retired from McAllen ISD after 38 years of dedicated service as an educator. She taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades, spending five years at the district’s Discipline Alternative Center, where she taught English Language Arts to students in grades 6-12. Additionally, she served as a Teacher Strategist and Assistant Principal for 10 years. During her career, Ms. Canchola was actively involved in various district committees.

A committed advocate for educators, she was an active member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA), holding multiple officer positions and serving on various committees, including two years as State District 1 Director. In retirement, she remains actively engaged with TCTA and has also launched her own home baking business.

Ms. Canchola has been a valued member of South Texas FCU for many years and has served on the Board of Directors since 2013. She is also an active member of the Policy Committee, further contributing to the credit union’s mission of serving its members with excellence.

Antolin Garza, Board Member

Antolin L. Garza retired from public education after 28 years of dedicated service. His career began in McAllen ISD, where he worked as an elementary coach for three years before transitioning to a school counselor role in 1978, a position he held until 1992. In the 1992-1993 school year, he accepted a role as an assistant principal at Valley View ISD. He later returned to McAllen ISD, serving as a middle school prevention counselor for six years, where he provided invaluable support to students, parents, and staff. Known for his commitment to helping those in need, Mr. Garza was always prepared to assist in any way possible.

Following his time in counseling, he took on the role of Program Specialist for the Texas Migrant Interstate Program at PSJA ISD, from which he eventually retired.

Before his career in education, Mr. Garza served three years as a soldier in the United States Army. He later pursued higher education, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s Degree from PAU. In 1991, he furthered his credentials by obtaining a Certificate of Supervision & Administration from PAU.
